Living Life to the Full!

Author: Scott Rattray

Living Life to the Full is a fun, interactive online course offered by CMHA Edmonton that will leave you with the inspiration and tools to get the most out of life!  This course is based on principles of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), and has been shown in research studies in the UK and Canada to be effective at improving resilience, well-being, mood, anxiety and social support.

This CMHA flagship program is an 8-week community-based course that provides simple, practical skills for coping with stress, problem solving, boosting your mood, and busting bad thoughts. Living Life to the Full certified facilitators present a new topic at each weekly class, bringing the skills to life though booklets, worksheets, group activities and discussions.

Living Life to the Full is available in many communities across Canada, with courses geared toward youth, adults, and older adults. CMHA has adapted and seen the course used in such diverse settings as workplaces, schools, on Indigenous reserves, in faith communities, in prisons, in seniors’ centres, in residential treatment facilities, and even in group medical visits.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Living Life to the Full has allowed for a safe, online means to interact with others and for individuals affected by isolation and mental health struggles to connect with facilitators and other participants to learn new ways to take control of struggles they are currently facing and to connect them to other community resources.

Participants have praised the sessions and the facilitators indicating that the principles taught to them were basic enough to be easily understood and that they have been able to apply some on a consistent basis.  Various concepts taught in the course have helped participants pause, think, and approach issues differently.
